Volvo has increased the prices of all four-wheeled vehicles in January, excluding electric cars.

Volvo Car India has reaffirmed its commitment to increase the usage of electric cars in India. The premium car manufacturer has taken several steps to fulfill its promise. While the company has not increased the prices of electric cars in India, it has announced a 2% price hike for its engine-powered cars. Volvo Car India sells two EV models in India, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.

The prices of the Volvo Recharge and Volvo C40 Recharge remain unchanged at INR 57,90,000 and INR 62,95,000 (ex-showroom) respectively. On the other hand, the new prices of the ICE models, XC60, S90, and XC90, are INR 68,90,000, INR 68,25,000, and INR 1,00,89,000 (ex-showroom) respectively. The XC40 Recharge is the most demanded electric model, with a total of 580 units sold so far.

In July 2022, the booking for the XC40 Recharge started and 150 units were booked within just 2 hours. The C40 Recharge was launched in the Indian market in September last year. Volvo has sold 180 models of this car in India so far. Starting from the new year 2024, Volvo has increased the prices of most of its petrol and diesel vehicles.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, said, “We have now shifted our focus towards long-term electric luxury cars. We have committed to becoming a fully electric company by 2030. We will continue to encourage the purchase of electric cars. Despite currency fluctuations and rising production costs, we have decided not to make any changes in the prices of EV models.”

In conclusion, Volvo Car India has kept its promise of not increasing the prices of electric cars in India while announcing a price hike for engine-powered cars. The company remains committed to promoting the purchase of electric cars and aims to become a fully electric company by 2030.
